This seems to be a popular era for designers to get their inspiration from.

I thought this captured the wartime period's style and its impact on women: Joan Fontaine, This Above All, 1942:

Note that it is single breasted to comply with wartime austerity regulations.

All of the wartime fashion plates are much simpler than pre-war illustrations.
