I'm renovating my work space and since I've never been satisfied with my pressing mat, I've been looking on eBay. I found this:

Not sure they are flat. Many of these are shaped to fit the horses back to prevent saddle sores.  

If you go out into the countryside and stop at farmers or horse store you can pick them up and really look at them.

You can order a sample book. 3/4 inch is good, 1 inch maybe better.
