Thanks for the welcome to this wonderful forum. I do simple sewing commercially and study couture tailoring and dressmaking for use in making many of the clothes for my husband and I.

Sator,

Dear Sator, thank you, I'm glad to be here! Thanks again for your kind invitation! As a novice what I can do well is test your parience, but I'll do my best to avoid that! I'm happy to be able to read what you write, dear Sator, and admire your style and knowledge. (And you name box or "magical square", which appears here in colors!) I'm also excited to recognize the names of persons whose texts I have read or with whom I have contacted for advice or otherwise from elsewhere! Yours, Naive Jr

I would like to welcome Freddy Vandecasteele to the Cutter and Tailor. I am sure he will be known to many here as an American shirtmaker. We now have several shirtmakers, and it is a matter of time before the discussion will start to warm up. I own some texts on shirtmaking and will post material soon. There is so much to be discussed and explored, it is hard to know where to start. The directory of merchants and mills offering shirtings will be improved too.

Welcome David Hober to the Cutter and Tailor Forum. There are few who know as much as you do about silks and tiemaking. It is wonderful to have you here.

Welcome Amateursarto and Sen.Cititzen to the Cutter and Tailor Forum!

Thank you, Sator for accepting me to the forum. I am an advanced novic shirtmaker (having made about 175 dress shirts for myself, thanks to DPC's excellent book on shirtmaking!) and now I explore the art of tailoring. I've at present made 3 suits for myself (though none of them are canvassed, all fused) and I am excited to learn as much as I can from everyone here. Like Naive Jr. I will try to contain my enthusiasm and not pepper the professionals with too many questions. Again, thanks for accepting me and I look forward to interacting with all of you.

Questions from learners, students and apprentices of the sartorial arts are encouraged to participate. The feedback during the beta testing phase from the pros was that it was just customer orientated questions in the Professional and Technical Fora that were disruptive.

Keep in mind that a lot of tailors are struggling because there just aren't enough skilled sewers out there who they can employ. There used to be a time on Savile Row when they could pick and choose who they could hire. Now they hire anyone who can do the job. It's the same everywhere. So education is a very important goal at the Cutter and Tailor.

Dear Sator,

Thank you for your welcome and a doff of the hat to the usual suspects (you know who you are!) hi.gif

It is almost two in the morning, past my bedtime, but I shall be back soon.

Thank you for starting this forum! The internet is really the only place that I run into other tailors such as myself.
