I hope it's ok to advertise this.
If you can get BBC4 TV, you may be interested in a programme on tomorrow evening (9pm 29 September 2011)on "The Perfect Suit". Apparently it charts the history of the modern suit, tracing its origins and seeing how the design has changed since the late 19th century.

Yes, looks like it.

I found the programme a bit disappointing - I was expecting more on how the alleged perfection was achieved, ie a comparison of construction techniques across time and geography. I suppose it was there, but it was all rather superficial in my view. I would have liked to have seen more behind the scenes in Savile Row for example. Ah well, maybe someone will do a proper documentary some time...

Here you go:

Three hour-long episodes.
Enjoy.

I enjoyed what I watched before the video crashed, but I, too, was a bit disappointed. I would keep an eye out for a doc that's in post-production called Men of the Cloth. But it focuses on Italian tailoring, not the Savile Row style.

From the film's Facebook page:

"MEN OF THE CLOTH is a documentary film about Italian master tailors and how they're navigating their challenging role in the 21st century."
