Terroir is a French winemaking term meaning the influence of a region on the taste of a wine. The question in this thread is whether a similar terroir exists in tailoring. How much does region and country influence the cut. Or do individual variations between tailors even within regions, as well as changes due to fashion much more important?

The following pictures come from an international tailor's congress held in Brussels, Belgium during June of 1960.

Now comes the important part. Can you pick where the following participants comes from? Can you discern the sartorial terroir on blind tasting? They have been numbered 1 - 17.

# 14 could be German. I dont see a German suit.
If you don't love to work long hours for little money don't try to become a tailor.

If you go crazy cause you can't solve a certain tailoring problem then put the stuff aside and go for a walk it might be possible you end up in the funny farm. LOL

Sorry, but I can't give answers yet because I don't know enough. There is another culturalgeographic phenomen besides wine - in language: dialect, or accent.

Bravo to all of those who showed courage! :clapping: I wouldn't have done very well myself in all honesty.

I've decided I would release a list of the countries on the list - however, you will note that there are less than 17 countries ie there may be more than one from any one country! The countries are in alphabetic order:

Austria
Belgium
Britain
France
Germany
Greece
Holland
Italy
Japan
Switzerland

Please feel free to submit an amended list! :tease: :spiteful:
