Hi,

What would be the correct point, in inches/cm below the belt line, to put the hem of a square hemmed shirt. RTW ones I have are usually too long due to my larger chest size. I'd like to make a few for this summer and would like to get them looking more like a shirt than a dress.

Cheers

Simon

It depends on your body height. Rundschau takes 1/2 Body height - 10 cm to 15 cm.

Thanks Posaune.

So that would be roughly just as the gluts start to curve back in towards the top of the leg (or where the bum sticks out the most)?

It's more where the torso stops and the legs begin.

I often take 1/2 the height minus 12 cm.

Below is a photo from the 1947 film The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer, starring Cary Grant. He wears a square hemmed shirt that ends right above where his trouser opens to the legs.
