Now, here is a look that has taken a bit of time to grow on me. Whatever you may think or say, there is no questioning that the overcoat has character - loads of it too. Notice too the high and narrow shoulders so typically 1970s. Together with that goes some very skillful tailoring.

There is a school of thought that says the sixties did not end until 1972.

Interesting point. Maybe socially or politically the 1970s began in 1972 however, I find that come 1970 the tailoring journals show a dramatic change in aesthetic.

The above overcoat with the very high, narrow shoulders and the dramatically wide lapels looks '70s through and through to me, although it is from 1971. Here it is again:



Likewise, the trousers are flared and the 1960s sleek narrow brimmed hat has been replaced by the 1970s floppy wide brimmed hat.

Here is Mick Jagger from The Tailor & Cutter, Feb 26 1971:



Again, looking archetypally 1970s with the ruffled shirt front and wide lapelled Tommy Nutter coat.

I've actually been very selective in picking things that I really liked. Even from 1971 there are things that I have skipped which look too 1970s in an exaggerated way to me. Others may see things differently. The following all come from the January, 1971 issue of Rundschau:







To really get back to the lean and clean 1960s look I find I have to pull out my 1969 T&C or Rundschau journals.

The dates are uncertain. I am going on what Labelking says. However, the brown reefer jacket with the wide lapels unquestionably looks 1970s. Labelking is definitely a 1970s admirer through and through.

The thing about Labelking is that he was born after the 1970s. Some of us have more difficulty in idealising the era because we were there. People who remember the 1950s also wonder why some people romanticise that era too. In the end, the 1970s will become a distant memory and it will be easier to romanticise it too. You can see that happening already. You can scream and object but nothing will change that course. And why should we not let it happen? It is just another decade from last millennium.

Well,i have nothing about this.
Is only a personal taste question.
In my questionable opinion the 80% of male fashion of 70s are ugly.
I don't like the cut,the proportions,the lapels,the shoulders,the trousers,the shoes,the hairs,"the north, the south, the east" (for quote Cole Porter).
Otherwise for those who likes economic and oil crisis,political scandals,terrorism,inflation,Unemployment,increase of crime and drugs the 70s are a real paradise.
But if something want romanticise that time for me is ok.
But i think that your thread about 70s fashion is very interesting for all we fashion history lovers.

Sometimes, it's hard to say which is more imposing, the .44 magnum gun or the archetypal '70s styled three piece suit.

The German voice of Clint Eastwood sounds much "cooler", not so soft.

^ That's because he's talking straight into the microphone in a little acoustically optimised room. You hear the same guy dubbing over those German movies all the time. At least with Clint, he has that raw, slightly raspy voice that is more authentic.
